3rd July 2009 - The Neck Campground - Bruny Island

Approximately 26k South of the ferry terminal and 2k south of the Penguin Rookery along Lutregala Road is the Neck Campground. Close to the beach where fishing for salmon is rewarding, the campground has plenty of level sites, two long drop toilets, tank water, a shelter shed and plenty of shade. Access to some sites may be difficult when wet. The return trip on the ferry costs $40.00 for vehicles over 6m. National Park Fees apply to this camping area.

29th June 2009 - Franklin Foreshore Reserve - Franklin

Opposite the Hotel and beside the river is Franklin Foreshore Reserve that has level sites, toilets, water, shelter shed, bins, a BBQ and a dump point. Located not far from the local sports ground, if staying on a weekend, you may be fortunate enough to be able to watch a game of Aussie Rules during your stay. A good place to stay on your way to Geeveston and the Tahune Air Walk.

21st June 2009 - Tahune Forest Reserve - Geeveston District

A 29k drive through Tasmania’s Southern Forests from Geeveston will bring you to the Tahune Airwalk where overnight camping is permitted in the car park and all night access to the toilets is available. The Air Walk overlooks the Huon and Picton Rivers and is over 800m long. A track from the Airwalk along the Huon River is relatively easy and two Swinging Bridges cross the river to form a loop to take you back to the Information Centre. Allow plenty of time to take in the surrounding rivers and forests. Another must do on your travels around Tasmania.

13th June 2009 - The Blue Place - Main Street - Kempton

Southern Midlands Council has provided a camping area near the Blue Place at Kempton. Three power outlets in a large level area with fresh water taps close to the centre of this village welcomes the camper. Although no fees for the power are displayed, a donation box has been placed near the centre of the camping facility. Showers and toilets are available and keys are available from the council offices for a small fee. The nearby shelter shed has a BBQ, tables, shade, and bins. There is also a dump point in town next to the fire station in Station Street. A notice restricting overnight stays to 48 hours is posted near the donation box and on the shower / toilet doors.

6th June 2009 - Pumphouse Bay Campground - Arthurs Lake Recreation Area

Located approximately 7k North East of the A5 / B51 Junction - 35k South of Poatina, this campground is made into two sections. The first section, close to the amenities block and day picnic area, is for short stay campers and is level and closer to the lake. The other section is for long term campers and is separated into individual sites away from the facilities. The showers were lock during our visit and when open, a $2.00 fee applies for hot water. The toilets are long drop, and are open all year round. After having a good look around, we came to the conclusion that this camping area would be very popular during the holiday season. A boat ramp is also available for those who like to have a bit of a fish.

4th June 2009 - Mayfield Bay Campground

Located approximately 16k South of Swansea and 34k North of Triabunna, this beachfront camping area has about 20 reasonably level sites, though some require chocks, with bay views. Pit toilets are the only facilities provided and campers are requested to bring their own firewood and take their rubbish away. There was a donation of $2.00 for each site but the honesty box was removed and a new system is being considered. Although very popular all year round, we were lucky enough to get a good spot by arriving early in the morning. A short walk from the camping area will bring you to a convict built three arch bridge built about 1845.
