8th May 2009 - Luina Camping Area - Whyte River

Mid-way between Waratah and Savage River on road B23, approx 16.5k from each town, is a free camping area at an old mining town that is near the Whyte River. There are several old sealed roads that lead off the main road to suitable camping sites on the western side of the bridge for self contained vehicles. No facilities are provided in this valley surrounded by lush bush land and the road to Savage River has very little use. The river is sparkling and suitable for washing. The road beyond Savage River to Corinna Campground is unsealed and the ferry fee to cross the Pieman River to-wards Zeehan and Strahan is $20.00 for cars & $25.00 for Motorhomes (each way).
