29th March 2009 - Travelling to Tasmania

Some helpful information for those travelling to Tasmania from Port Melbourne.

1. Day travellers that depart Port Melbourne at 9.00am are able to park overnight along The Boulevard prior to boarding the Spirit of Tasmania. When arriving at Devonport, overnight parking for self contained vehicles is available at Coles Beach, west of Devonport, (GPS: 41°09'45.2"S - 146°20'21.8"E,) or, at the intersection of Caroline and John Streets, East Devonport where there is also a dump point. Toilets and water is available at both Devonport Council approved rest areas. Permits are required and are available at the Information Centre at 92 Formby Road.

2. Overnight travellers that arrive in Devonport at approximately 9.00am; have plenty of time to travel to the many free camping sites around the island. Supermarkets are in Best Street and plenty of free parking is available. The information centre has no free parking and parking costs $1.20 adjacent to the building off Formby Street
