23rd Apridl 2009 - Wayatinah Town Common

Approximately 24k North West of Ouse and approximately 16k South of Tarraleah is the Thriving Metropolis of Wayatingah (Population about 300) Just near the shopping centre is a small park with an assortment of “mushrooms” that would satisfy the desire of any hippie willing to have a trip. We were lucky enough to find this display on one of our off main road trips.

6th June 2009 - Pumphouse Bay Campground - Arthurs Lake Recreation Area

Located approximately 7k North East of the A5 / B51 Junction - 35k South of Poatina, this campground is made into two sections. The first section, close to the amenities block and day picnic area, is for short stay campers and is level and closer to the lake. The other section is for long term campers and is separated into individual sites away from the facilities. The showers were lock during our visit and when open, a $2.00 fee applies for hot water. The toilets are long drop, and are open all year round. After having a good look around, we came to the conclusion that this camping area would be very popular during the holiday season. A boat ramp is also available for those who like to have a bit of a fish.

16th April 2009 - Lake Burbury Boat Ramp Queenstown District

Approximately 76k West Derwent Bridge and 20k East of Queenstown is Lake Burbury Boat Ramp and Camping Area. This site can accommodate about 8 assorted rigs on a slightly sloping area towards the boat ramp. A long drop toilet, a shelter shed and fire places are the only facilities available but there are plenty of places to do a bit of fishing. If you are fortunate enough to have a boat, the boat ramp provides easy access to the lake which is open for fishing all year round.

25th April 2009 - Hamilton Town Common - Hamilton

This excellent camping area is located at the west end of town beside the river, 37k North West of New Norfolk. The camping area is located below the road and is shaded and level. Hot showers are provided ($1.00 for 6 minutes) and a shelter shed contains free BBQ’s. To complement this well maintained site is a dump point and garbage bins. A warning to those with front wheel drive vehicles that the access road is slippery when wet. The town has a combined Post Office and general store and a couple of café’s. The hotel has irregular hours and patrons are advised to contact the publican if requiring a meal.

22nd April 2009 - Reece Dam - Pieman Lake - Zeehan District

44k North West of Zeehan and 58k West of Tullah is Pieman Lake and Reece Dam. Near the boat ramp is a large level sealed parking area suitable for camping beside the lake. There are no facilities so camping is restricted to self contained vehicles. Wood fire places are provided and from the camping area a good view of the Reece Dam is possible during fine weather.
